xvp - a VNC Console Proxy Server and Web Front End for managing Citrix XenServer and XCP

The xvp suite consists of 5 components:
xvpappliance
xvpappliance is a small self-contained virtual machine, that can
be imported into XenServer or Xen Cloud Platform. It includes xvp,
xvpdiscover, xvpviewer and xvpweb pre-installed, and has a
menu-driven interface allowing all of these to be configured easily.
It has built in scheduling facilities for checking for software
updates and changes in pool memberships.
Users can manage virtual machines by pointing their web browser
at the imported appliance. The administrator of the appliance can
reconfigure it, as necessary, via a simple menu driven interface,
that can be accessed from the xvpappliance console or via ssh.
For most people, installing xvpappliance will probably be much
simpler than building, installing and configuring the individual
components separately.
xvp
xvp (standing for Xen VNC Proxy) is a proxy server
providing password-protected VNC-based access to the consoles of
virtual machines hosted on Citrix XenServer or Xen Cloud
Platform.
It can be used to gain access to VM consoles without having to
run XenCenter, and from any operating system that has a VNC
client, not just Windows. By suitable use of VNC passwords, it can
provide delegated access to the consoles of particular virtual
machines.
xvpviewer
This is a custom Java-based VNC client. It is based on the
TightVNC viewer, but with xvp-specific additions to allow clean
shutdown and reboot and hard reset to be initiated by clicking
buttons on the viewer, and with added support for mouse-wheel
scrolling.
It is supported on Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, and is also known to
work on Solaris.
When used with xvpweb, xvpviewer supports the use of one-time
passwords, for added security.
xvpweb
This is a web-based front end, providing a status view of
XenServer and Xen Cloud Platform pools, hosts and virtual machines,
with easy to use facilities to view virtual machine consoles and to
boot, shutdown reboot, suspend, resume and migrate virtual machines,
and insert and eject virtual DVD drives.
It makes use of xvp (running on the same machine as the web
server) and xvpviewer (supplied in applet form as part of
xvpweb).
By making use of a database or flat file, it can be made to
restrict which users can view and/or manage particular virtual
machines or groups of virtual machines.
xvpdiscover
This is a small program which runs on Linux, and can write a
configuration file suitable for both xvp and xvpweb.
It does this by connecting to one of the server hosts in a
XenServer or Xen Cloud Platform pool, querying the details of the
pool, hosts, and virtual machines, and generating a suitable
configuration file based on the information it discovers.
xvpappliance makes use of a pre-installed xvpdiscover to poll for
pool membership changes automatically.
These components can also be used with Xen Cloud Platform (XCP), and
behave in the same way as when used with XenServer.
The software is free, open source, and available under the GNU General Public License, and there is a mailing list for announcements and discussion.
